Our Story

A Business Built on Family, Friends and Faith

When Bob Johnson and lifelong friend Dick Fischer learned to paint in high school, little did they know that painting would one day become their livelihood. But after pursuing somewhat less satisfying careers, in 1976 they decided to put their painting skills to the test and start the JF Company. Between painting jobs, they tilled gardens, shoveled snow for their neighbors, and began cultivating the strong and honest relationships on which the company would be built. With a commitment to meet and exceed their customers' expectations, a belief in divine guidance (and heartfelt gratitude for its ultimate blessings), and faith that by doing right by others they would succeed, the JF Company not only grew but thrived, and is now the premier painting expert in Central Ohio.

Today, the JF Company is completely family owned, with operations being handled by Bob, his son, Jerry, and daughter, Allison. Together they continue to take the business to new heights in performance, employee pride, and client satisfaction.

Robert Johnson
President

In 1976, Bob Johnson and Dick Fischer co-founded the JF Company. Today, in his role as President, Bob continues to oversee the company, keeping his eye on the big picture; overseeing major HR, legal, and financial issues;  and sharing his insights with the JF team. He is proud to say that, under his decades-long leadership and by the grace of God, the JF Company has never dealt with a major safety incident or missed a payroll.

Before starting the JF Company, Bob spent two years serving his country in the United States Army, and three years as a Distribution Supervisor. Today, on the rare occasions he's not working, Bob can be found hanging out with his family and dog, raising horses, and spending time on his boat.

Jerry Johnson
Vice President and Co-Owner

The son of co-founder Bob Johnson, Jerry joined the family business in 1998. At his father's insistence, he spent his first full year doing nothing but prep work, learning the fundamentals of surface preparation and what it means to the overall quality and finish product of a project

Today, Jerry oversees most day-to-day activities including managing the sales and estimating team, operations and project progression, scheduling and forecasting, HR requirements, and billing.

When not at work, he enjoys spending time and with his beautiful wife and three daughters. He bleeds scarlet and gray on every football Saturday, and also very much enjoys golfing, and traveling.

Jerry feels very blessed to say that he truly loves his job and the people he gets to work alongside each and every day. It was always the plan to work with and learn from his father, who has taught him more about business ethics and how to treat others than he will ever be able to pass on.

Allison Thompson
Assistant Office Manager

As Assistant Office Manager for the J.F. Company, Allie is hugely popular since she makes sure everyone gets paid on time. She handles payroll and certified payroll,  does all the invoicing, and even manages some of the company's IT. In addition, she's the certified dog walker, feeder, and all-around wrangler of official company mascots, greeters, and canine security, Symon, Oliver and Dak..

A Columbus native, and daughter of J.F. Company founder Bob Johnson, Allie realized halfway through college that there was nothing she'd rather do than work with her family. Today, she's an integral part of the team although she much prefers handling the important background,  and leaving the front-line jobs to the other members of the team.

When Allie isn't keeping things humming behind the scenes, you'll find her cheering on the OSU Buckeyes with her husband, two children and her two dogs, a German Shepherd and Great Dane.

Thomas Holschbach
Field Superintendent

Tommy began his career with JF as a painter in 1993. Since then he has moved his way up through painting supervisor, and today manages the JF field crews.

When not working, he loves spending time with his wife, daughters, and beagle, Bo.

Symon, Oliver & Dak
Office Security

If you come into our office, chances are you will be greeted by at least one of these guys, but usually all three.  They belong to our two owners, but they are absolutely part of our team (some would argue the best part).  Symon and Oliver have been coming to the office since they were puppies and take their jobs very seriously.  Dak is a new addition, having recently joined the team after 10 years of loyal service in the U.S. Military. We are so honored to have him as a part of our family.

Tony Thompson
Estimator

Tony was born and raised in Ohio. He has worked in the construction field for 18 years estimating and in the field. He is the father of three children and also a grandfather of two. When not at work he spends his time with family, church and his hobbies.
